Information about Expo '90 (Period：April 1 to September 30, 1990 (183 days))

The official English name is "The International Garden and Greenery Exposition, Osaka, Japan, 1990," and it is commonly known as "EXPO '90."

Symbol Mark

The six-petaled flower symbolizes the mystery and brilliance of life in full bloom.
The design was created by KATSUI Mitsuo and was selected through an invited design competition.

Hana-Zukin-chan

The mascot character of the Expo '90.
Hana-Zukin-chan was selected from 9,603 entries nationwide by a judging committee chaired by TEZUKA Osamu. The design was created by illustrator KURAMAE Yurie, who lives in Fukuoka, and was inspired by a fairy flying through a forest. The three-dimensional version of the character was also created by TEZUKA Osamu.

The Expo '90 was held in 1990, the first year of high-definition television, when the then Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and the then Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications joined forces for the first time to broadcast high-definition images.
